A Field in Innsbruck: Wildflower Honey Black Tea

Rated 4.1 out of 5
Based on 106 reviews

Tastes Like: blackcurrant, juniper, honey, spruce
Feels Like: a walk through alpine woods

As the Austrian Alps warm they offer a multitude of aromas and colors. A forest walk leads to unexpected clearings redolent of grasses, herbs and wildflowers in full bloom. The bright spruce aroma overhead and earthy fir needles meld with the soil underfoot. Brushing along bushes and ground cover brings an intense burst of fragrant herbs and ripe blackcurrant berries warmed by the sun. This tea offers a majestic aromatic journey.

📝 Blender's Notes

This fresh black tea blend evokes forest bathing in the Alps. It's an update of an earlier tea blend of the same name.

This blend emerged from the idea of a tea that captured the essence of a forest and prairie walk among the herbs and berries and sweet earth. It's got a lovely bouquet of dark berries like juniper and blackcurrant alongside rosemary, thyme and cornflower. There is a very light touch of pu'erh for some extra depth. If you are unfamiliar with pu'erh tea, it is a special fermented black tea that is prized for digestive and other health properties.

For our 2024 version, I decided to soften the herbaceous and earthy flavors by adding honey granules. It is not a sweet tea to my tastebuds.

This tea is an aromatic spa experience. Lovers of wildflower honey, juniper and gin will appreciate this flavor.

There are those who will shy away from this tea for its pu'erh or the herbs. My hope is that this blend will be a delightful experience for anyone who's looking for a truly unique flavor.

I'd love for you to try it hot and iced. Add a splash of your favorite milk. If you're inclined to add more honey, please do. This is a blend that defies the usual flavor categories found in tea. It's a lot to ponder in each sip.

I can't wait to hear what you think.

Warmly, Gina

Walking in Sunshine

I believe that this may become my favorite tea. I have tried it hot and cold with no honey and hot and cold with just a little honey. It is delicious however I’ve had it. It has a distinctive taste and makes me think of walking through the fields behind my house. I will definitely be buying more.

Almost Indescribable!

I love the name of this tea and all the elements it is comprised of. It has just the right amount of sweetness from the honey, and the juniper comes through clearly. It has an herbaceous, healthy flavor. I only wish it was decaffeinated, so I could drink it all day long! And to be truthful, when I sit and sip this, I have a mental image of Julie Andrews, running down the side of the Alps! I’m looking forward to reading the reviews to see how other tea drinkers use this tea as I think it is robust enough to make a stellar latte or tea cocktail.

Not quite enough wildflower or juniper

I’ll note that I was mostly curious going into this tea. I had high hopes but also a few concerns. I’m not a fan of juniper-forward gin, so whenever I see juniper listed I get a bit nervous. In a very contradictory note I adore a liqueur a local company used to make and it had a very alpine feel of spruce and juniper. So again, I had high hopes.

Instead, I feel like it’s just… a bit boring. I do t get big notes of anything. It’s fully drinkable and I won’t regift it out, but there’s nothing really calling to me on this one. I feel like I could have loved any of the elements but none really hit me. I tried it both as a plain black tea and tea latte with coconut milk and a pump of vanilla. I have yet to try it as an iced tea—maybe that’ll be the sweet spot.

If Thanksgiving stuffing were a tea…

I thought this tea was really interesting. The loose tea smells amazing before brew and the cornflower petals are SOOOO pretty. I’m on the fence though about the taste….the thyme is really strong and I can’t help being reminded of stuffing when I drink it!

Best one yet!

I love, love, love this tea! The spruce and juniper notes are tangy and woodsy but with a lightness reminiscent of the bergamot in Earl Grey. The wildflowers and honey mellow the flavor without making it sweet or cloying. The balance is perfect! This may just be your best blend yet!
