A Field in Innsbruck: Wildflower Honey Black Tea

Rated 4.1 out of 5
Based on 81 reviews

Tastes Like: blackcurrant, juniper, honey, spruce
Feels Like: a walk through alpine woods

As the Austrian Alps warm they offer a multitude of aromas and colors. A forest walk leads to unexpected clearings redolent of grasses, herbs and wildflowers in full bloom. The bright spruce aroma overhead and earthy fir needles meld with the soil underfoot. Brushing along bushes and ground cover brings an intense burst of fragrant herbs and ripe blackcurrant berries warmed by the sun. This tea offers a majestic aromatic journey.

📝 Blender's Notes

This fresh black tea blend evokes forest bathing in the Alps. It's an update of an earlier tea blend of the same name.

This blend emerged from the idea of a tea that captured the essence of a forest and prairie walk among the herbs and berries and sweet earth. It's got a lovely bouquet of dark berries like juniper and blackcurrant alongside rosemary, thyme and cornflower. There is a very light touch of pu'erh for some extra depth. If you are unfamiliar with pu'erh tea, it is a special fermented black tea that is prized for digestive and other health properties.

For our 2024 version, I decided to soften the herbaceous and earthy flavors by adding honey granules. It is not a sweet tea to my tastebuds.

This tea is an aromatic spa experience. Lovers of wildflower honey, juniper and gin will appreciate this flavor.

There are those who will shy away from this tea for its pu'erh or the herbs. My hope is that this blend will be a delightful experience for anyone who's looking for a truly unique flavor.

I'd love for you to try it hot and iced. Add a splash of your favorite milk. If you're inclined to add more honey, please do. This is a blend that defies the usual flavor categories found in tea. It's a lot to ponder in each sip.

I can't wait to hear what you think.

Warmly, Gina

Yummy

This was a great black tea that doesn’t have the same harshness as black teas can have. It definitely has a wheat, honey taste to it. Loved this one!

A Grassy Black Tea

As someone who likes both black and green teas, I honestly can't decide what category this one belongs in. I tried this tea without additives, and it has an astringency typical of black teas, but the overall flavor I would describe as grassy and fruity/herbal. Overall I think the flavor profile of this tea caters more to green/herbal tea lovers, but also might be a nice way to drink a black tea (warm or iced) in the summer.

Refreshing When Iced

The fragrance when you open the packet fills your head with spring...and when brewed and iced, this tea is very refreshing. I can't wait to try it on the first truly hot day of summer. This one is a winner!

It’s a beautiful tea

More than anything this tea is beautiful. The pictures really don’t do it justice. When I first opened the bag I anticipated a delicious smelling aroma as is customary with August Uncommon Tea’s offerings. Much to my surprise I was more enamored by the luscious blues and black. This tea is so very attractive and the taste is commensurate. An all around pleasurable experience.

If you appreciate beauty then this is the perfect tea for you.

An interesting tea

I enjoyed the tea, but felt that it was closer in taste to a green or jasmine tea than a traditional black tea. I made it as a hot tea with a bit of sugar, but think it would be very refreshing as an iced tea.
