How lovely is the scent of jasmine wafting through the air?

My home is flanked by stands of pink, star and Arabian jasmine. The surrounding streets are graced with stands of Southern Magnolia trees. Early summer in Southern California has fragrances I can’t get enough of. Taking a stroll among these glorious scents fills me with awe and peace.

I’ve longed to create a jasmine tea that captures its wonderful floral character without the bitterness of traditional jasmine teas. Magnolia Grandiflora is not a traditional jasmine tea for that reason. I’ve found even the highest quality jasmine teas to be bitter after a few sips.

This tea has the spirit of magnolia and jasmine with some peach and lemon notes to provide a sweet balance to the florals. I’ve added lemongrass to green tea and oolong tea to create a perky citrus base to balance the sweet floral notes.

Magnolia Grandiflora is wonderful hot, however, I think it's even better iced. It makes the most heaven-scented iced tea that will ease those hot summer days. Ice brings out its sweet fruity side while keeping the lovely floral aroma.

This tea must be brewed at 190 degrees F in order to get the right balance of flavor.

Magnolia Grandiflora's green tea and oolong tea base will taste bitter if brewed too hot, and the overall flavor will taste boring and flat.

🔥 Brewing Directions

Hot Brewing 10 oz

Heat 190°f/90°c water
Add 3.5g tea, about 2 teaspoons
Pour 10oz/300ml hot water
Infuse 4-5 mins. Longer is stronger.
Repeat Reinfuse 1-2 times

Iced Brewing 10 oz

Heat 190°f/90°c water
Add 3.5g tea, about 2 teaspoons
Pour ~3oz hot water to barely cover tea leaves
Infuse 4-5 mins. Longer is stronger.
Dilute with 7oz cold water
Serve Over ice

Unlike anything else
I live in the south and I know magnolias. Their scent, their huge blossoms, the red seed pods in the fall that are as mysterious as their dark and waxy leaves. This tea is a perfect compliment to that darkly feminine vibe - unlike anything else I've tried from August Uncommon.

A great balance of oolong and green
I am not a huge green tea fan--but I like this one! the sweetness balances the floral very nicely--so not too too smokey the way most green teas are. If you are trying to get into green tea but haven't found a taste you prefer yet, this is a great starter!

Not Grand
August Teas tend to be special - this wasn’t. Maybe the “magnolia” in the title set me up for something a tea couldn’t deliver. It’s flowery but like any other tea.
