I am caffeine sensitive and therefore cannot drink most black teas so I was eager to try this Decaf Black tea. The decaf black tea is an Indian tea. It was very smooth , mellow and not bitter at all ( steeped at 212 for 4 min) and was great plain. Finally a good Black tea that I can enjoy !!

I was excited that August Teas was releasing a decaf black tea as part of the Essentials collection. I love black teas and am happy to find an organic, decaf one that uses a nontoxic process to remove caffeine.

First, I have to say I love the purple and pink packaging! When I opened the bag I noticed that the tea looks different - smaller leaves and bits - so not as hearty looking as some of the other teas. I made a pot in the evening, which was a pleasure since I usually can’t have black tea this late. It turned a satisfyingly rich, dark brown but tasted a bit on the lighte side. I added oat milk, which I recommend, and also a little lavender syrup for a treat. This tea seems like a good base for anything - milk of choice, flavored syrup or honey, even some hooch! All in all it’s a solid decaf black tea that I’m happy to add to my afternoon and evening rotation.

This is a nice, smooth tea. I like mine a little bolder and stronger. I tried adding extra tea and extra brewing minutes, but it just stayed mild and mellow. If that is what you like in a tea, then this one is for you!

I was pleasantly surprised by the robust flavor of this tea. Other decaf black teas I’ve tried were weak and rather tasteless. August’s Decaf Black tea is flavorful and smooth. Perfect for after dinner or evening drinking, and I’d recommend it to anyone trying to cut down on caffeine. This is one I plan to add to my tea shelf as long as it is available.

This is everything a “regular” cup of tea should be. Strong and flavourful, with more than enough body to stand up to milk. Now I can finally have “a proper cuppa” in the evening!
