Tastes Like: dark plum, spice cake, maple syrup
Feels Like: a cozy nordic cabin

This sweetly spiced plum black tea welcomes you in from the cold. Dark plum is perfectly complemented by a medium bodied blend of malty black tea, floral oolong and earthy pu’erh tea. Inhale an aroma of familiar comfort: spiced cake baking in the oven of a warm cabin. Deep molasses mingles with vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove and dark plum. The first sip is soft and tannic with a tingle of spice and floral plum flavor in the finish. Carrot, peach and plum brighten the rich cake notes with jammy sweetness. A touch of milk tones down the fruitiness and increases the sweet spice flavor. Over ice, this tea has a rich amber honeyed flavor. For lovers of chai and spiced cake.

📝 Blender's Notes

This blend is an ode to Nordic winter wonderlands. The darkest, coldest days are magically uplifted by holiday rituals: the light of candles, the comfort of a blazing fire, and the joy of gathering friends and family over spiced drinks and fruit cakes.

Northern Lights plum spice black tea is inspired by the cozy winter drinks of Northern Europe. Glühwein and glögg (or gløgg) are different winter drinks that warm you up from the inside out. The complex flavor of Northern Lights tea evokes traditional Scandinavian gløgg parties where each guest brings a bottle of liqueur, wine or spirit to add to the spiced drink warming on the stove. By the end of the party, the gløgg achieves a unique flavor from the particular combination of ingredients.

This is a medium-bodied black tea that combines bold Assam and Pu’erh with two special orchid-scented oolong teas: Da Hong Pao and Qilan. Real dried plum, carrot and peach add natural fruity sweetness to this exquisite aromatic tea base. The final touch is a complex aromatic spice blend inspired by Danish gløgg, which has aquavit and fruit liqueurs with sweet spices. The rich plum and carrot flavors come alive with vanilla, cinnamon and a whisper of clove.

Brewing Northern Lights is nearly as delightful as drinking it. Its wonderful aroma fills the kitchen while you wait for it to infuse. Given its aromatic complexity, I prefer this blend without additions. And though it’s naturally sweetened by dried fruit, if you’re looking for more desserty flavor, it’s excellent with a bit of sugar. It’s also great with a splash of milk and a touch of sugar or honey. Try a few variations and see what suits you. Northern Lights makes a wonderful non-alcoholic after dinner drink to light up holiday meals and parties.

I can’t wait for you to try Northern Lights. I hope it gives you an amazing winter glow.

If you enjoy chai, spiced cakes or warming winter drinks, this tea is for you.

    Cozy in a cup!

If you're dreaming cozying up by a festive cracking fire with a cup of tea, this one is it! Full of warming winter spices that settle into the blend perfectly and immediately transport you to holiday markets and twinkling lights. Spice forward but without over powering. This is also a quite fruity tea and I find myself having to scoop deeper part the bigger fruit chunks to make sure I get a balance of tea leaves. I also found that I have to steep this one longer to let the tea and spice mellow the fruit before it becomes over sweet or astringent. But once you get your steep right you'll fall in love and never look back!

    A magical autumn brew

Northern Lights feels like stepping outside on a crisp autumn night, wrapped in your favorite blanket with something warm between your hands. The plum is deep and velvety—dark, juicy, and softly sweet—while the clove drifts through with a warm, fragrant spice that makes the whole cup feel almost enchanted.

I loved it even more with a longer steep, when the fruit became richer and the clove a little more pronounced. A few drops of sweetness and a splash of cream transformed it into something wonderfully lush and comforting, like spiced stewed plums by a glowing fire.

It’s dreamy, warming, a little mysterious, and exactly the sort of tea I want when the air turns cold and the evenings grow dark.

    Potpourri for your taste buds

It's Christmas 1993 and you just walked into the local homegoods store with your mom. She purchases a potpourri bag with cinnamon sticks, red berries, and glittery pinecones that gets placed in a longaberger basket on your coffee table at home. That potpourri smelled so good that you wanted to eat it.

That's it. That's what this tea tastes like. Nostalgia. They somehow figured out what that scent/flavor profile was and put it in tea. I love it.

    Great fruity winter tea

Some of my favorite August teas are their black teas that pair a bright fruit with something sweet—Cabaret, Razzmatazz, Gold Rush… Northern Lights fits nicely into that family with a cozy, spiced winter twist. The leaves smell rich, fruity, and spiced. I’m giving four stars because I did wish that the flavors once brewed were a little bolder; every listed ingredient is present but subtle. That being said, with such strong flavors, bolder might become overwhelming. This will definitely be in my winter rotation when I’m looking for fruity and sweet with a cozy kick.

Wonderful Way to Move Into Autumn

Even though it's 105 degrees here, I do feel the stirrings of Autumn with this wonderful new plum-y tea. I always like to test a new tea out before I look at the ingredients and this one mixes all of the ingredients in a lovely blend. I will be adding this one to my list of August faves!
