Rare Leaves Single Origin Tea Mini Tin Sampler

Done! You will be notified when this item is back in stock.

Try all three Rare Leaves teas with this mini tin sampler:

Each mini tin contains 7 grams (.25oz) of tea. That will yield 2-6 cups of tea each. These teas all reinfuse exceptionally well, so please try infusing the tea leaves 2-3 times for maximum enjoyment.

Rare leaves are uncommon single estate teas.

Like precious gems, these teas are carefully selected for their exceptional beauty and flavor. Each tea is hand picked and finished to produce the most exquisite tea experience.

The Rare Leaves Mini Tin

The most precious tea requires the most robust protection. Rare Leaves are packed in the ultimate tea caddy: CNC milled from a solid block of aluminum. They are airtight, light tight, and recyclable. These are miniature versions of the larger, more robust full size Rare Leaves tins.

Final sale: Rare Leaves are excluded from the money back guarantee due to the high cost of producing these teas.

📝 Blender's Notes

At the beginning of August Uncommon, we had a vision to share the most unusual, exciting teas. Our first releases included single origin teas we called 'Rare & Pure.' As August grew, it was our bold tea blends that people craved most. The Rare & Pure teas had their fans, but it was a minority of our small customer base who enjoyed them as much as we did.

Now, we decided to bring back these precious limited edition teas in August’s Rare Leaves line. Their packaging reflects their special character. It's inspired by rare cask or special reserve editions of whisky and other spirits, as well as the presentation of fine jewelry. This is why each tea has a gem inspired name, with information about its growth elevation and location. We have retained our flavor notes.

Please be aware that pure teas will not have the intensity of our blends with other flavorful ingredients and flavoring, instead these teas let the natural terroir of the tea shine through.

Rare Leaves are more expensive than other August teas. This is because of their special production. They are hand picked rather than machine harvested, and finished with careful manual technique.

One final recommendation is to consider using spring water to brew these teas so that you may enjoy their full flavor. I typically use Los Angeles tap water with my tea at home. However, these precious teas definitely deserve the best water to bring out their character.

If you've ever wondered what the Rolls Royce of tea is like, now's your chance to find out. I hope you enjoy.

– Gina Zupsich, head blender, August Uncommon

✨ Quality Tested

All our teas are double tested for pesticide residues, heavy metals, and foreign objects.

Because they’re blended in Germany, all August teas must pass stringent EU pesticide standards, which allow much less pesticide residue than the US FDA.

Every other 5 star rating I've ever given feels like four stars after trying this tea. Buy this tea.

I couldn’t get much of a scent from the dried leaves beyond “black tea,” so I was worried when I first opened the container. Then I smelled the steeped tea and lost all concern, and maybe my mind a little bit, because - WOW, this tea smells heavenly. I spent the entire time waiting for it to cool down just breathing it in with such intensity I started to feel like a crazy person. I was mostly (mostly) trying to put it into words for this review, though. The only thing I can think of (that does it remote justice) is the sweetest, most delicious malted grain you’ve ever smelled and/or tasted in your life. Then I had a sip.

It. Is. INCREDIBLE. That delicious malty-ness remains in taste - not at all like a beer or alcohol malt, though, and I struggle to compare it to anything. It’s not sweet, necessarily. Just… comforting. Warm. Like stepping inside from a sun-bathed meadow walk and tasting your grandma’s freshly baked bread on the air. (I’ve never experienced that in my life, but after drinking this tea, I feel as though I have). It has virtually none of the astringency of typical black teas, it is smooth and hydrating over the tongue.

August’s other rare leaf tea, Black Pearl, I recommended oolong lovers try for the experience. But THIS. This tea – I beg anyone and everyone to buy it for the taste. It IS worth the price. By FAR the most amazing single-leaf black tea I have ever tasted. In fact, maybe the most amazing tea I've tasted of any single-leaf OR blend. Buy this tea.…

Dark roast hits first before settling into buttery, nutty, malt-like flavors with notes of honey

I recognize the price of this tea isn't for the faint of heart, so I am going VERY in-depth on this review in case it helps someone make a decision. But for a TL;DR:

On first open, the dry tea has a two-note scent of musk at the back of your palate and a delicate fragrance at the front that reminds me of jasmine rice. The taste steeped is markedly different, losing the (very slight) floral fragrance to settle more on the deep roasted notes. It has a buttery, nutty kind of follow-through, like malted barley, and ends on the slightest twinge of a honeyed sweet note. Yes, it is delicious. No, it won't make you or the oolong-hater in your life change their mind about oolong. This tea definitively tastes like oolong. Very good, pristine quality oolong, but still oolong. For anyone else, if you are an oolong lover, I highly recommend splurging on this tea at least once for the experience.

___

I was positively giddy to try this tea. Of "pure" teas, oolong is beaten only by pu'erh, in my opinion, in regards to complexity and synchronicity of flavors. But unlike pu'erh, that complexity won't hit you the very second it passes your lips. Rather, you need to take your time and savor and let the flavors build. This oolong is no different, though the roast definitely comes through immediately and gives the leading flavor for the rest of the notes to follow. After the first few sips, you start to get a lovely buttery-nutty flavor which in turn after another few sips and/or resteeping…

Gorgeous green tea

This green tea breaks all preconceived notions about “grassy” green tea. It’s smooth, slightly sweet, and has bit of a grain like taste. Normally I turn down green tea because I expect it to taste like horse feed (and some do). I actually enjoyed this one, and it has the visual bonus of watching the whole tea leaves unfold as it brews. It’s just beautiful.

Complex floral green

I'll get to the tea in a minute, but this new packaging makes a statement! I'm used to the bags, so this new tin set the stage that I was in for a treat. It's nice and smooth, feels good on the hand, and airtight. It will be perfect for refills later.

Tea: The aroma reminds me of greens, slightly roasted. Mouthfeel is smooth. The initial tasting note was seaweed lightly buttered, and then I was left with a lingering sweet floral aftertaste. I really enjoyed the complexities of this tea.

A delicate flavor and pretty to watch

This green tea is a delightful experience. Its delicate flavor profile, is light green 💚 -both unique and soothing. The small, vibrant green leaves unfurl beautifully as you steep them, offering a visual treat alongside the gentle taste. A truly elegant and nuanced tea. Picture depicts the fragrance of this green tea.
