Cocoa Anise Barley Tea

Rated 4.6 out of 5
Based on 101 reviews

Tastes Like: biscotti, aniseed, cocoa butter, toasted barley
Feels Like: golden grain harvest

Divine comfort in the dark hours of winter. Inspired by the original barley tisane kykeon, the ritual drink of devotees of the Greek goddess Demeter, this tea has a satin texture and creamy flavor. Nutty roasted barley and malt are enriched by the subtle aroma of sweet aniseed and roasted cacao. A splash of your favorite milk turns up its natural sweetness.

Hearty, Earthy, Sweet

I am in love with this tisane! It tastes almost like a mellower pu'erh with a hint of chocolate. But maybe that description is misleading: it truly is a unique taste. Even compared to the popular barley teas in Korea and China, this has a taste of that but still has something more with the anise and chocolate. It's like a homemade slice of herby wheat bread with a crust covered in seeds, a spread of butter, drizzled on honey, and sprinkled with cocoa powder. It feels both rural and luxurious; could be a dessert drink or a morning pick-me-up. A must try.

Different, but still needs something

First off, I rarely add anything to my tea. This would probably be so much better with cream and sugar. I would give it a 4.5.

Wonderful herbal tea!

I wasn't totally sure what to expect of this blend, but the combination works really nicely! It tastes a bit like a very thin smearing of nutella over toasted rye bread.

Great caffiene free option, and I'll definitely be getting more of it when I start running low!

One of my all time favorites!

I love this tea so much! I love the marriage of the chocolate and anise flavors which are mellowed and smoothed by the earthy grain taste. It’s one of the best teas I have ever tasted and certainly one I always look forward to drinking.

Wonderfully unique rich, heady tea

This tea is amazing; I love richer teas and this is a wonderful caffeine-free option with tons of depth and character. All the flavors come through, it's very malty with strong licorice nose and cocoa aftertaste
