Though I enjoy this every season. This tea is just 3 ingredients, barley, anise, cocoa but it's full of flavor and substance. This is definitely a top 5 for me.
I’ve tried a lot of teas in the past, but this one is so unique to me. I’ve had anise in tea before, but the balance of this tea is outstanding. The predominate flavors are chocolate and licorice with a nutty undertone. It’s decadent and dessert-like. This is the first barley tea I’ve tried, and it leaves me wanting August to come up with some more barley blends.
I ordered a sample of the tea because of a glowing email I received with a lengthy description on its flavor. The ingredients sounded intriguing so I took the plunge. I forgot about it until I received an email this morning asking me to review it so, I brewed a pot for breakfast. I have to say even though I would not put it up there with my favorites, I am enjoying this tea. I definitely get the cocoa and anise flavors which care nicely balanced. The malt is less distinguishable for me. If you do not like licorice flavor, this tea is not for you but if that isn't a problem I definitely recommend giving it a try.
This tea smells malty, tastes of cacao, and has a light anise flavor at the end of the sip. It has beautiful blond color when steeped.
Honestly, I didn't have high expectations for this one. I like the flavor of anise, but it can get overwhelming fast, and I wasn't sure how refreshing this tea blend was going to taste. Other reviews eventually had me convinced to give this one a try, and I'm glad I did. It has the richness and flavor of a cup of hot cocoa without the sugary sweetness (not to knock sugary sweetness, hot cocoa is a regular staple for me in the winter months), and it's been a nice way to wind down in the evenings for the last few weeks. I'll definitely be reordering once I get through this batch.
